Petrol Makes 82.5% of Iran Petroleum Products Exports

TEHRAN (NIORDC) - The National Iranian Oil Products Refining and Distribution Company (NIORDC) said Iran exported a total of 8.5 million tons of petroleum products last calendar year which ended on March 20, of which 7 million tons was petrol, representing 82.5 percent of the total exports of petroleum products.
Petrol was once the Achilles heel of the Iranian economy to the extent that the sanctions often targeted focused sale of petrol. Due to the importance of supplying the fuel, refining and quality improvement projects as well as increasing the capacity of the country"s old refineries were put on the agenda, and Iran was able to eliminate the need to import petrol in 2018 and in 2019, received the permit to export petroleum products.
As Iran became one of the exporters of petroleum products, part of the oil revenues that were out of Iran"s reach due to sanctions were offset.Iran started exporting petroleum products such as petrol and diesel in 2019, in 2020, the largest volume of exports was recorded.
Statistics from NIORDC show that in the calendar year of 1399, the company was able to export a total of 8.5 million tons of petroleum products. These figures do not include the marine export of petroleum products such as fuel oil, which is done by the National Iranian Oil Company.
Exports of 8.5 million tons of petroleum products were recorded while the share of petrol was 7 million tons, equivalent to 82.5 percent. In total, export of petroleum products has brought Rls. 570,000 billion in revenue to the country, which has played an important role in overcoming sanctions as well as combating the Covid-19 pandemic.
The high volume of exports of petroleum products last year, under the sanctions, was done while an average 110 million liters of petrol was produced in the country on a daily basis and the average consumption of petrol in 1399 was 74 million liters per day, and the 36 million tons of surplus production provided Iran with a unique export opportunity for the item.
In general, the existence of appropriate infrastructure and the price and quality of Iranian petroleum products made it possible for the country to reach a special position among the countries exporting petroleum products in the world and the region.
Although most of Iran"s exports are destined to neighboring countries include Iraqi Kurdistan, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Uzbekistan, UAE, etc., the exports are not limited to the region and the country has exported shipments to some Arab and African countries, Singapore and even Venezuela. However, the increase in petrol consumption this year and the record consumption of over 100 million liters per day in July, has raised concerns about maintaining these export markets and the continuation of exports of Iranian petroleum products.
