Iran Saves $37b of Petrol by Consuming CNG

TEHRAN, Oct. 24 (NIORDC) - Iran has launched compressed natural gas (CNG) production industries for over 12 years over which the country has saved over 37 billion dollars in petrol consumption.

An Iranian oil official says investing in production of compressed natural gas (CNG) and replacing it with gasoline as fuel has saved Iran the amount over 12 years.
Masoud Hashemian, an official with National Iranian Oil Company (NIOC)s International Affairs, said the country has saved the amount by investing 3 billion dollars in the sector.
"This is the greatest achievement for Iran in launching CNG industries for optimizing fuel consumption," he said.
He said Iran is the second biggest owner of CNG-run cars in the world after China, saying the country follows Germany for the biggest number of gas engines.
The Iranian government has initiated an agenda for replacing gasoline with CNG in cars for 12 years.
Iran is hosting the 7th conference and exhibition of Asia Pacific Natural Gas Vehicles Association (ANGVA) in Tehran.
Beginning on October 31, the three day conference and exhibition will host Iranian and foreign companies active in CNG industry.

Over the past decade, Iran -as the holder of the worlds first largest gas reserves, has become the biggest manufacturer and consumer of the mostly related CNG equipment in the world. Having extra capabilities in the country such as vast variety of gas transmission and distribution network, along with four million natural gas vehicles and around 2300 CNG refueling stations enable us to reach the top position in CNG industry among worlds countries. This exhibition and conference will highlight and discuss the opportunities and challenges of infrastructure and technologies development and deployment in the push for utilization of natural gas and other alternative fuels for the transport sector.
