16% of World’s Gas-Run Cars in Iran

TEHRAN, (NIORDC) - Iran is touted as the worlds second largest owner of gas-run cars after China, enjoying 16% of the planets vehicles that run on compressed natural gas (CNG).
Iranian Minister of Petroleum Bijan Zangeneh said the above at the opening ceremony of the 7th ANGVA Biennial International conference and Exhibition (ANGVA 2017) here in Tehran on Tuesday.
He said ANGVA 2017 is a palatable opportunity for Iran where it can set the ground for introduction of the countrys achievements and capabilities in CNG industry.
It also paves the ground for enhancing collaborations with internationally active companies in the field, the official added.
"The conference can also pave the way for the cooperation of Irans organizations active in the field with their international opposite numbers," the official said.
The official said Iran currently has the capacity of supplying 45 million cubic meters of CNG on a daily basis.
Iranian manufacturers can supply up to 90% of the equipment and machinery needed for building a CNG station.
Iran enjoys the worlds largest gas distribution network which supplies gas to over 90% of the countrys population as well as all the power plants and major industries.
Zangeneh said once more gas is supplied to consumers, fuel oil, kerosene and liquefied petroleum gas consumption will decrease dramatically.
Iran sits atop the worlds largest natural gas reserves with an estimated volume of 34 trillion cubic meters.
Zangeneh said the country expects to bring its natural gas output to a billion cubic meters per day once new phases of the supergiant South Pars Gas Field come on-stream.
Nearly 98% of Irans urban population and over 70% of its rural population has access to natural gas for heating and cooking
